Kinston Fire Station 1 is a six apparatus drive-through bay station, which was built and dedicated in February 2008 while the Mayor O. A. Ritch was Presiding and under the Kinston Department of Public Safety Director, G. S. Smith (Retired), by the Daniels and Daniels Construction Company of Kinston, North Carolina.
The fire station floor-plan layout is all on one floor for easy access to the apparatus for increased response times. The front apparatus bay doors open with a special safety designed split hinged horizontal bi-fold swing/cam action designed to reduce the chances of collisions with the doors due to malfunction and possible roll back of the older model vertical lift doors.
The administration offices, training room, day-room/kitchen area are separated by the apparatus bay from the Commander's Office, the Captain's Office, and the crews' sleeping quarters.

Murphy was Presiding and under the Kinston Department of Public Safety Director, B. Johnson (Retired), by the Daniels and Daniels Construction Company of Kinston, North Carolina.
