Alonzo Jaynes

​History & Roles

Alonzo Z. Jaynes began working with the Kinston Police Department in September 2016. Chief Jaynes is a 22 year veteran with a wealth of experience. He has been in a supervisory position since 2006. Chief Jaynes held the rank of Assistant Chief for two and a half years with the Chapel Hill Police Department. Before, working with the Chapel Hill Police Department, Chief Jaynes worked 19-years with the Durham Police Department and left  Durham at the rank of captain over Durham’s District One, Patrol Division.

During his tenure, he served in a multitude of assignments including:
  • Support Services Bureau Management (Chapel Hill)
  • Overseeing the School Resource Officer Program, Training Division, Crisis Unit, Administrative Services Unit, Records Unit, and IT.  (Chapel Hill)
  • Captain (Durham)
  • Criminal Investigations Division Lieutenant (Durham)
  • Patrol Lieutenant/Watch Commander (Durham)
  • Internal Affairs Supervisor (Durham)
  • Youth Services Unit Supervisor (Durham)
  • Youth Services Unit Investigator (Durham)
  • Violent Crimes Investigator (Durham)
  • Homicide Unit Investigator (Durham)

​Education

In 2010, Chief Jaynes earned his MBA from Pfeiffer University.
He is also a graduate of Northwestern University’s Police Staff and Command Program as well as the WestPoint Leadership Program. Chief Jaynes is also an Adjunct Professor at Mount Olive University.
